About The Wine

Damilano is one of the oldest Barolo houses in Piedmont — founded in the 1800s, still family-owned, now led by Giacomo Damilano's grandchildren. Over 130 years of winemaking, rooted in the Langhe Hills, treating the land with the kind of respect that shows up in the glass.

Lecinquevigne translates to "the five vineyards" — a blend from five distinct Barolo crus that gives you the house's complete vision of what Nebbiolo can be. This is how a legacy producer with access to exceptional fruit shows range and balance in a single bottle. You're getting the breadth of Barolo without the single-vineyard premium.

The 2021 vintage delivers classic Barolo architecture: well-defined raspberry, cherry, menthol, iron, and tar on the nose, with licorice, red currant, mint, and balsamic threading through. Medium- to full-bodied, ripe elegant tannins, chewy acidity, and a long precise finish. Ruby red with orange-tinted reflections — the color tells you this is the real thing.

Barolo is called the King of Wines for a reason. Nebbiolo from these hills — where clay-rich marl meets high-elevation sites — produces wines with a combination of power and elegance that nothing else replicates. This is what serious Italian wine tastes like.

Drinkable now if you give it an hour in the decanter. Better from 2027 onward, when the complexity really opens. You're buying a wine that'll still be hitting its stride a decade from now.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

A fine-tuned, elegant Barolo with aromas of dried cherries, dried roses, licorice and mint. Full-bodied, it shows smoothness, density, weight and soft tannins despite the structure, with refreshing acidity and a long, vibrant finish full of savory flavors. Drinkable now, but best from 2026. ~95 James Suckling

Laced with cherry, strawberry, rose, mineral and white pepper flavors, this red is expressive despite being linear and taut. Firms up on the finish, where lively acidity drives the fruit and savory elements. Shows excellent harmony and potential. Best from 2028 through 2045. ~93 Wine Spectator

A blend of fruit from five MGA sites (Brunate, Liste, Cerequio, Cannubi and Raviole), this is an ample release of 70,000 bottles. The Damilano 2021 Barolo Lecinquevigne offers nice intensity and standard Nebbiolo complexity with dark fruit, cassis, spice and toasted tobacco leaf. You do not taste the personality of any one site, but that's not the point. Aged in large botte, the wine is open-knit in texture and immediate. You can wait longer or pull the cork now. ~93 The Wine Advocate

Elegant and perfumed nose of rose petal and orange peel; balsamic spice, smoked cherry and textured tannins on the palate. ~92 Decanter

A vibrant Barolo that leads with pure, lifted aromatics of fresh roses and red cherries. The palate carries this sense of lightness forward, showing elegant fruit and pristine flavors that feel energetic rather than weighty. The finish sparkles with tart red fruits and that unmistakable Nebbiolo vibrancy, leaving your mouth watering for another sip. This wine proves that Barolo's beauty can come through brightness and purity rather than sheer muscle. ~91 Wine Enthusiast
