Flowers and white fruits, but especially flowers, along with a bit of herbs, in a wine that has depth and freshness at the same time, the acidity seems sharp, the flavors are citrus and herbal. It has a generous body, built from acidity and tannins, an athlete's body, one of those who run long distances. This chardonnay is the most ambitious of the Otronia whites and comes from blocks III and VI, from clonal selections from Burgundy planted in 2010 on soils with a layer of sand and a subsoil from a lake bottom rich in clays. Super pure, fresh, edgy and chalky, with tons of lime zest, sliced green apples, green star fruit and a touch of cream and crushed oyster shells. Such brightness on the palate with so many gastronomic attributes. Concentrated in flavors, but nothing hefty here. Long, mouthwatering finish. When the Otronia team first planted vines in this extreme terroir on the shores of lake Musters in 2010, far to the south in Patagonia, they chose grape varieties they expected would only be used for sparkling wine. Chardonnay was one of them. However, the incredible luminosity at this latitude led to a ripeness that surprised everyone – and the still Chardonnay went on to become their flagship wine, challenging the usual stereotypes of New World Chardonnay. Deriving from vines planted in 2010 in Chubut's Sarmiento province, the 2021 Chardonnay fermented in untoasted foudre and matured for 22 months in barrique. It opens with a beautiful, harmonious bouquet of orchard fruits, white flowers, woody accents and a pleasant flourish of gunpowder. The palate is luscious, seamless and tensile, transitioning to a lifted, persistent finish with weightless intensity and admirable clarity.
