About the Wine

In the heart of Sonoma County, nestled among picturesque vineyards, lies the extraordinary Kistler Vineyards. Founded in 1978 by Steve Kistler and Mark Bixler, their vision was revolutionary: To produce character Chardonnays that reflect the essence of California's diverse terroirsand that rival the finest wines from Burgundy. It was a notion ahead of its time, and for the last four decades, they've been pursuing this dream without compromise.

In 2008, Bill Price, the longtime owner of Durell Vineyards, joined forces with Steve, ensuring Kistler Vineyards remains a family-owned venture. To lay the groundwork for the next forty years, Jason Kesner joined Steve in the cellar. Their viticultural and oenological dialogue spanned a decade, shaping the very essence of Kistler's winemaking philosophy.

Steve Kistler, a Stanford graduate, is a true pioneer who redefined California wine. His significance in California Chardonnay is attributed to his dedication to crafting exceptional wines with a focus on single-vineyard expressions of the Chardonnay. With an unwavering dedication to a unique Chardonnay clone, Kistler embarked on a captivating journey, meticulously exploring the diverse micro-climates across Sonoma.

The New York Times named Steve as “A Cult Winemaker” applauding his contribution to California Chardonnay. And Food and Wine Magazine's Wine Guide considers this Chardonnays the "Best of the Best" among "Star Producers”

Kistler Vineyards owns fifteen vineyards across California, from the lush Carneros to the sun-kissed Sonoma Valley and the breezy Sonoma Coast. They meticulously tend to their heritage Californian Chardonnay clone, a living testament to decades of selection, honing its unique characteristics.

Aging: 11 months in 35% new French oak.
