Starts off plump and round, with star fruit, pink grapefruit and fennel, and then quickly takes on a restrained, racy edge, with celery seed and blanched almond cruising alongside smoky, salty flintiness. Offers great tension and freshness, with the silky palate still tightly wound. There are touches of acacia and white flowers on the finish. Drink now through 2030. 90 cases imported.~94 Wine Spectator
Honeyed citrus, apricot, white flowers, and crushed stone minerality all emerge from the 2023 Condrieu. Medium to full-bodied and beautifully textured on the palate, it shows the rich, supple style of the vintage yet stays balanced and pure. This classic Condrieu will be best enjoyed over the coming 5-7 years. Drink 2025-2032.~93 Jeb Dunnuck
Bottled in July 2024, the 2023 Condrieu unfurls with vivid orange blossom, apricot, ripe peach and a touch of quince. Lemon flesh adds more nuance. Medium- to full-bodied and creamy textured, the generous 2023 boasts sufficient freshness to keep it all in check. It closes with a resonant echo on the complex finish. ~92 VM

What the Critics Said
THE PRODUCER
Chateau de Saint Cosme
Saint Cosme is a negociant firm that produces wine in Cote Rotie, Chateauneuf du Pape, and Gigondas. The domaine maintains their official location in Gigondas. Saint Cosme is situated close to the site of an ancient Roman villa that is said to have planted vines thousands of years ago. Henri Barruol, the patriarch of the family, passed away at 89 years of age in January 2017. Louis Barruol has been in charge of Domaine Saint Cosme since 1992. Wine has been produced on the site of Saint Cosme since Roman times, evident by ancient Gallo-Roman vats carved into the limestone below the château. The property has been in the hands of Louis Barruol's family since 1490. Henri and Claude Barruol took over in 1957 and gradually moved Saint Cosme away from the bulk wine business. Henri was one of the first in the region to work organically beginning in the 1970s.
