About The Wine

Gremillet is a legacy of authenticity, simplicity, and relentless pursuit of excellence. The Gremillet family’s journey began in 1979, with a dream to create a champagne that would grace the most prestigious gatherings around the world.

Today, that dream is a reality, with Gremillet Champagne proudly served in over fifty embassies and consulates worldwide.

The Gremillet family’s philosophy is beautifully captured in their distinctive metal cap, which features the words “Al andar se hace camino” (Walker, you make the path as you go) by Machado. This ascending motif represents the path of life—a journey of perseverance, optimism, and success.

The Ambassadeur is the house's flagship non-vintage Brut, built around 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, drawing on approximately 20% reserve wine from four to five previous vintages. It spends a minimum of 22 months aging on its lees before disgorgement — 25% longer than AOC rules require — and that extra time shows in the texture. This is not a lean, austere style of Champagne. It's creamy, layered, and genuinely satisfying in a way that tends to surprise people who associate Champagne with restraint.

James Suckling awarded it 92 points, calling it bright and focused with excellent balance. It has collected medals from Decanter, the IWSC, and the Sommelier Wine Awards. Winemaker Jean-Christophe Gremillet has said the house performs brilliantly against major labels in blind tastings — and the scores back that up.

If you drink Champagne mostly for big-brand recognition, this will recalibrate what you think value looks like in the category.

70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay.

Pale golden color with fine, persistent bubbles and a creamy mousse. The nose is lively and inviting — acacia, hawthorn, peach, pear, and apricot, with sweet brioche and toasty yeast overtones developing with air.

On the palate, the wine is rich and rounded: baked biscuit and peach skin up front, balanced by fresh citrus acidity and spiced vanilla on the finish.

Medium-bodied with a smooth, creamy texture. Ready to drink now; excellent as an aperitif or with light food.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

Bright and focused with chalk, apple and lemon aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied with a creamy texture and a bright, vivid finish. Well-made. Drink now. ~ 92 James Suckling

This is the nonvintage cuvée from this family company in the Aube region. It has perfumed white fruits with a ripe and lightly structured feel from the Pinot Noir in the blend. It is a very accessible Champagne that is ready to drink. ~ 90 Wine Enthusiast

THE PRODUCER

Gremillet

Founded in 1979 by Jean-Michel Gremillet with just a single hectare of vines, Champagne Gremillet has grown into a bold, family-run house making serious waves from the Aube region.

Today, the second generation—his children, Anne and Jean-Christophe Gremillet—are at the helm, pushing boundaries while staying true to their roots. Nestled just south of Épernay, their vineyards turn out crisp, expressive Champagnes that punch well above their weight. This isn’t stuffy, old-school fizz. It’s fresh, elegant, and built for modern celebrations. Gremillet isn’t just keeping up with tradition. They’re redefining it—one bottle at a time.
