2016 was a great year in Friuli Colli Orientali. Vinous rated it a 94-point vintage, declaring the reds "cool-toned and racy, with vivid fruit profiles and the structure to balance.” If you’re a fan of Bordeaux blends with an Italian spin, like the Super Tuscans grown south of Fruili, today’s Cabernet and Merlot blend—embellished with a bit of native grape Schioppettino—is not to be missed.
Conte d’Attimis-Maniago is a family winery with a relationship to the vine and vineyard that’s lasted over 400 years. The estate’s 270 acres of vines sit on soils composed of marl and sandstone with a predominantly clayey component. With this excellent terroir the family can live out their philosophy: Create exceptional and well-crafted wines, combine the tradition of the region with their own new and creative methods, and transmit to the consumers the greatness of the land.
This dream for Italian wine lovers is a luxurious red wine, powerful yet elegant and balanced. It’s excellent to drink now and has a promising future if you can be patient.
