Lafite's 2x 95pt Comfort Red Blend: 2017 Château d’Aussières Corbières

Sometimes all it takes for a wine to demand your attention is an association with the winemakers of one of the best wines in the world. Château d’Aussières in the Languedoc is owned by thesame owners of Château Lafite Rothschild, a much sought-after and lauded First Growth Bordeaux. Domaines Barons de Rothschild owns them both. We have your attention now, don’t we?

In the late 90s, Rothschild purchased the Château that in Roman times was the “Official Wine Supplier” for all of Rome. Aussières has an exceptional location and vineyards that Rothschild updated and improved in 1999. This 95 point 2017 Château d’Aussières Corbières is the top-notch wine of Aussières, the crème de la crème,the bom diggity.

Carefully selected from only the best parcels of the vineyard, this GSM (plus a little C) blend is a wine with a sense of place. Baron Eric de Rothschild said of Aussières, "A place of wild, natural beauty, that emanates tremendous power, and whose terroir has exceptional potential."

Aussières is a modern pioneer and a top producer in the Languedoc. Since its first 2023 vintage, the Château has been positioned as one of thefront runners of the Languedoc’s revival. This wine is evidence of that revival. Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Carignan are precisely blended to create a wine that shows black fruits and spices on the nose. It’searthy, well-integrated, elegantly tannic, and has a long, lingering finish.

With its95 points, Decanter says the Château d’Aussières Corbières is “a really good example of warm, ripe fruit from the south of France with good integration of oak, lots of red fruit, and chocolate character.” Wine & Spirits agrees with Decanter’s 95 rating and says it’s “focused on finesse, with lean, lithe cherry flavors framed in spice and earth.”

James Suckling says this wine is “so delicious now. Can age, but why wait?” You can wait to drink it if you want, but don’t wait to order. BHW hasthe lowest price on this lovely Languedoc, just $49.89 for this made from a careful selection of only the best parcels of the vineyard.
