Bargain Burgundy from 50-Year-Old Vines: 2019 Domaine Henri Latour Bourgogne Hautes Cote de Beaune

There are not a lot of things in the world that make you feel better than hitting a bullseye. When you aim, whether you're throwing a football or dart, shooting an arrow, or kicking a soccer ball and you place that object exactly where you aimed you feel unbeatable. Well, that's exactly what happened in Burgundy during the 2019 vintage. Compared to recent vintages, it's unbeatable and like James Suckling said, "Burgundy hits the bullseye with (the) 2019 vintage."

We're here to bring you that championship mentality with the 2019 Domaine Henri Latour Bourgogne Hautes Cote de Beaune. It's from a family-owned and operated Domaine that's currently run by the 7th generation. Rome wasn't built in a day and seven generations later this Domaine is kicking ass and taking names!

The 2019 Hautes Cote de Beaune is driven by beautiful red fruits, raspberries, fresh cherries, ripe strawberries, red beets, 5-spice, and a touch of forest floor. Layers of red fruits coat the palate with soft tannins massaging every inch of the tongue. It's a refreshing medium-bodied beauty with a lengthy finish. It's time to dive into Burgundy's sensational 2019 vintage without breaking the bank.

The 2019 vintage is unquestionably one of the greatest Burgundy vintages of all time. Rare Wine Invest declared it "the best vintage since 1865" which is known amongst Burgundian insiders as the greatest vintage of all time. Bernard Hervet who worked for two of the region's top producers, Domaine Faiveley and Bouchard, backed this claim. So what can you expect from the wines from this legendary vintage?

James Suckling describes the wines as "beautifully ripe yet precise fruit, the elegant tannins and the lively acidity gelled on the palate." The majority of the grapes reached ideal ripeness due to the third-warmest year of the last century. Couple that with enough rain to keep the vines healthy and you have some of the best fruit that's ever come out of Burgundy vineyards.

Today's wine comes from Burgundy's most elevated vineyards. They were once seen as an unattractive appellation, at an elevation that wouldn't be able to achieve ideal ripeness. However, due to rising temperatures, this sub-region has been turning out beautiful wines with great freshness and minerality. The Henri Latour is no different and at $25.99 a bottle, you can't go wrong!
