93pt Cru Barbaresco: 2017 Adriano Marco e Vittorio Basarin Barbaresco

You know what’s a good feeling? That one you get when you discover a fantastic wine and then a few months or even a few years later, your friends start buzzing about it. Today’s wine may just give you that feeling. A recent Forbes article praised Adriano Marco e Vittorio saying, “this producer is making top-rated wines that aren’t as well-known as they should be.” Now is your chance to be in the know before everyone else catches on.

We’re not suggesting you lord your previous knowledge of the 93-point 2017 Adriano Marco 3 Vittorio Basarin Barbaresco over your wine friends when they brag that “no one else knows about this wine yet.”  But, we don’t object to a slightly cheeky reply of, “Oh, I thought you would have already known about that great wine and winery.”

Located in the heart of the Langhe in Piedmont, Adriano Marco e Vittorio Winery is a fascinating family winery that dates to the 20th century. This 100+-year-old family boutique winery is finally getting the recognition it’s so long deserved for its wines that are an unbelievable value. Along with the Forbes accolade, Wine Enthusiast has featured Adriano’s wines on several occasions on their “Top 100 Wines of the Year” lists.

Adriano exclusively cultivates and vinifies its own organic and sustainably-certified Nebbiolo for this Barbaresco with sweet spots of earth and leather. The result is a wine that’s a true reflection of the terroir of this Nebbiolo-loving region. Basarin region is ideally suited for Nebbiolo with soils of marl layers with silt and clay that cover the hills where the vineyards are planted.

Wine Enthusiast’s 93 points for this Barbaresco that has flavors of “sour cherry, blood orange, and star anise” comes with the guidance to give it a little more time to develop. Wine Spectator advises to not open this “well-structured” and “balanced” wine till 2023 (which really isn’t so far away), complimenting this wine from 2017’s 94-point vintage with 92 points.

BHW has this Barbaresco that will continue to evolve gracefully for the next 20 years, at least. And our offer on this wine that drinks way above its price tag even at full price—simply because the winery is still a bit off the radar? It’s 30% off!Now that you’re in the know, don’t hesitate on this Italian beauty.
