2015 Tasca d'Almerita 'Rosso del Conte' Contea di Sclafani

When we talk about Italian wine, what are the first regions that come to mind? Probably Tuscany, Piedmont, or Veneto. Well, here’s another region that you should be thinking of: SICILY.

For me, finding an Italian wine that I can truly enjoy isn’t as easy as it seems, but not today, not with this wine. Today’s offer was true love at first sight, or should I say at first sip? My one and only: 2015 Tasca d'Almerita 'Rosso del Conte' Contea di Sclafani.

It all started with the dream of founder Count Giuseppe Tasca, who decided to create a special reserve that could age like a top-tier Bordeaux or Châteauneuf-du-Pape. After many years of research, selecting the best fruit from his vineyards, and carefully designing this blend, this masterpiece was born! Today, Rosso del Conte stands as a revered icon among Sicilian reds and continues to be made from the very best selections of the old-vine estate vineyards.

Outstanding wines come from outstanding places, and according to Wine & Spirits, Tasca d'Almerita is considered one of the “Top 100 Wineries of 2021”. It is a green oasis in the center of the island where 8 generations have fostered the past, present, and future of Sicilian winemaking.

This wine is one of a kind, an exotic and stunning red blend. It’s deep in color and flavors, with enticing aromas of Marasca cherries and herbs with undertones of vanilla and tobacco. A revolution on the palate, rich body, beautiful and silky tannins, and a long long finish. This wine needs time, it needs to be pampered, so prepare yourself a nice dinner like a slow-cooked beef stew, or a gourmet BBQ (or portobello) burger.

“The 2015 Sicilia Contea di Sclafani Rosso del Conte Tenuta Regaleali definitely delivers the goods, but it also delivers a few surprises along the way. There's a lot going on in terms of aromas with softly ripened fruit that is plush and succulent. With a good amount of clarity, I might add, you also get varietally true aromas of olive, anise, and toasted Bronte pistachio. At the tail end, there is a meaty or savory tone of smoked pancetta or cured ham. The wine shows beautiful intensity and depth with textural richness and integrated tannins.” ~94+ Wine Advocate.
