95 Point Vintage: 2019 Chateau Haut Musset

What’s more satisfying than opening an excellent bottle of Saint Emilion from a fantastic 95-point vintage, one that you bought for a value price? Opening that bottle and having some friendly bragging rights because you're the only one of your wine friends to own it (unless you’ve turned them on to Big Hammer Wines). The wine in question is crafted by respected French winemaker Jacques Rambeaud and imported exclusively into the U.S. by BHW.

In 2014, Rambeaud bought a small, ten-acre estate, previously run by Jerome Aguirre and his wife Veronique Abbadie. From that estate—on a highly praised parcel of land located in the majestic Montage-Saint Emilion that sits a stone's throw away from Petrus and Cheval Blanc, and 2 miles away from Figeac—comes the 91-point 2019 Chateau Haut Musset "La Cerisiers" Montagne-Saint Emilion.

One sip of this Right Bank wine and you’ll know that Haut Musset is an up-and-coming Bordeaux Chateau that you’re going to want to keep your eye on. It’s the latest acquisition by Rambeaud who is thoughtfully and skillfully building on his family’s winemaking legacy. In 1940 his great-grandparents purchased Chateau Corbin. He expanded the company in 2010 with the takeover of Château Grand Moulin Macquin and a parcel of Saint Georges Saint-Emilion: Clos Albertus. In 2014 he acquired Château Haut Musset, Montagne Saint-Emilion. And that’s where this exciting wine comes in.

It’s grown sustainably in the region’s iron-rich clay soil, the same type of soil of Pomerol’s signature “crasse de fer”, thought to be responsible for the notable aromas and texture found in the region's Merlot. The wine is powerful and expressive and the elegance of the wood underlines the freshness of the fruit and refines the fleshy balance of the mouth.

This superb Bordeaux is an unquestionably notable wine, and that’s why we’ve chosen to be its exclusive importers. We are not surprised James Suckling rated 91 points to this stunning, medium-bodied wine that’s full of Ripe blackberry and plum on the nose, with hints of chocolate and wet earth. Its fruit core is assisted by thick tannins with a rich finish. It’s simply delicious.

"Amazing Value" and "Saint-Emilion" are two words that usually don't go together in the same sentence. So you can imagine the greatest excitement that we have in bringing you this lovely wine from a satellite of Saint Emilion at over 33% off! Exclusively at BHW.
