Amazing Value White Burg: 2021 Domaine Claude Manciat Mâcon-Charnay 'Sainte Juste' White Burgundy

In southern Burgundy, you’ll find one of the smallest designations in the Mâconnais region, Mâcon-Charnay. Don’t let its size—it has only about 141 acres of vineyards—fool you, though, It’s small, but it’s also one of the most highly regarded designations in the region where Chardonnay is the star grape.

The 2021 Domaine Claude Manciat Mâcon-Charnay Sainte Juste White Burgundy is made from that star grape. It’s 100% Chardonnay, aged in stainless steel. It’s a jewel of Domain Claude Maciat’s estate, produced from 25 to 60-year-old vines.

The estate is run by Marie-Pierre Manciat, daughter of Claude and a 5th generation vigneron. The focus in the vines is on producing perfect fruit, and to do so, the Domaine practices sustainable viticulture, ensuring today’s fruit is perfect and the fruit will continue to be so for the 6th generation of the family and beyond.

The yields in the vines are routinely 20 to 30 percent lower than appellation allowances. The result is that Marie-Pierre is capable of producing rich, powerful wines that have the tell-tale, desirable traits of the terroir and its calcareous soils. This stainless steel Chardonnay has aromas of white flowers, apples, and stone with the flavors of apples, lemon, savory herbs, and mineral/limestone freshness common in excellently-made wines grown in calcareous soils. It finishes clean and will complement oysters, white fish, briny snacks like olives, and salty cheese.

This wine represents absolutely great value and quality, and BHW has the Lowest Price Anywhere on this mineral-driven beauty. It’s 40% off, bringing it to under $25. If you’re wondering where this fits in your holiday wine plans, we see this as the glass of wine you start off Friendsgiving with while everyone is milling around nibbling on cheese, olives, and nuts before dinner is served.
