Cuando se habla de vinos chilenos en el mundo, seguramente una de las regiones más nombradas y espectaculares será MAIPO.

Te invitamos a conocer la región de vino más variada del continente americano en sus estilos y gustos ¡Acompáñanos a Chile!

El Valle del Maipo, cercano a la capital del país, Santiago de Chile, marca el inicio de la producción de vinos chilenos. Es por mucho, la región del Valle Central, la productora de vinos más conocida del país.

Maipo alberga los vinos más exitosos dentro de la rama de exportación del país  y es aquí donde residen las principales bodegas que se iniciaron  la historia de la producción del vino: desde el año de 1555, año en que la primera producción del país, pasando por  la introducción de cepas francesas en 1851 y finalmente  cuando se descubrió que aquí existían ejemplares de la uva del Carmenere en 1994, cuando se creía que la uva extinta en el mundo, pues sus raíces francesas fueron devastadas por el ataque del pulgón de la filoxera de finales de los 1800’s y es en Chile donde se le redescubre, pasando la Carmenere a propiedad del suelo y los vinos chilenos. 

Maipo

El clima en el Valle del Maipo es estable, de tipo mediterráneo, con veranos cálidos y secos e inviernos cortos y suaves. Los contrastes térmicos de días calurosos y  las noches frescas son ideales para las uvas; en algunas zonas altas caen heladas. Maipo se encuentra protegido por la cordillera de los Andes y la cordillera de la costa, es atravesado por los ríos Maipo (de donde toma su nombre) y el río Mapocho, tiene 3 regiones de cultivo y cada una le da a los vinos una característica única: Maipo Alto, con vinos de taninos marcados y corpulentos por su clima frío, Maipo Medio de vinos llenos de fruta y sedosidad producidos así por la cantidad tan grande de sol que recibe y finalmente Maipo de Costa, con vinos frescos y de una acidez muy bien puesta.  

Bajo esta situación climática, ¿Qué uvas se adaptan mejor?... por supuesto esas uvas que les encanta ponerse a los rayos del sol como adolescente en verano, cuanto más sol es mejor: Tintas: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenere, Syrah, Cabernet Franc y Malbec; en las blancas el Chardonnay y en zonas altas la Sauvignon Blanc y la Semillón.

El Valle del Maipo tiene las grandes viñas (bodegas) tradicionales de Chile, cuyas sedes principales nos darán la bienvenida, la más famosa: Concha y Toro (la casa más grande de Chile) y su Casillero del Diablo.

Concha y Toro: fundada por el abogado Melchor Concha y Toro en 1883, inicia funciones en ese año, alcanzando actualmente 130 países con sus vinos. Una de las marcas más famosas es el Casillero del Diablo, donde nace la leyenda de que los mejores vinos de la bodega y que estaban en crianza de barrica eran cuidados por el Diablo, evitando así que la gente se metiera a robarlos. Este vino logró en el 2010 ser la representante y escudo publicitario del Manchester United, equipo de soccer que se representa con un diablo, convirtiéndose el primer VINO en lograr este tipo de publicidad. El Casillero del Diablo es la segunda marca más reconocida del mundo y la primera de Latinoamérica.
