From Vineyard Block Next to Scarecrow: 2018 Heir Apparent Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Napa Valley

You can't go wrong with a Napa Valley Cab. This region is creating some of the most spectacular and exciting Cabernets the world has ever seen. So much so that the word “Napa Cab” has become a head-turning phrase in the wine world.

Some of the highest-praised (and most expensive, I might add) Napa Valley Cabs are found in Scarecrow Winery, wines that sell for over $500 a bottle (or more, depending on the vintage.)

Today, I’m bringing the quality, but not the price of the esteemed Scarecrow with a wine that comes from the vineyard block next to Scarecrow, the amazing 2018 Heir Apparent Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Napa Valley.

There’s so much to say about this wine, but first, I want to take a moment to appreciate the epic year that 2018 was for Napa Valley. This nearly perfect 99-point vintage (according to Wine Spectator) deserves a standing ovation. Decanter declared that “the 2018 Napa Valley Cabernet vintage belongs in an echelon with the finest of the past two decades.”

But the spectacular vintage is only the beginning, the 2018 Heir Apparent was described by one of the most important wine critics in the world, Jeb Dunnuck, as an “Outstanding wine” that is “drinking terrific today” on his 92-point review.

This outstanding wine comes from Heir Apparent, a winery that is spearheaded by ambitious Dwight Bonewell. Through his vision, Dwight has created an Ultra-Luxury Napa Cab, sourcing extremely high-quality fruit from some of Napa's most prized vineyards in regions like Rutherford, Mt. Veeder, and St. Helena.

This wine shows an intense nose of blackberry and sweet Asian spice intermixed. Black pepper and blueberry fruit interplay along with a note of graphite and a subtle vanilla touch on the finish. The wine reveals an extremely supple tannin texture with the strength and power of beautiful Napa Valley Cabernet fruit.

This wine is perfect to drink today, but if you’re patient enough to store it for a good couple of years, I can assure you that your patience will be rewarded.

The deal is simple: A 92-Point Napa Cab crafted with fruit from one of the most south after terroirs in the world, born in a nearly perfect 99 Point vintage, and at 61% Off, under $50/bottle. (that’s the best price anywhere!)
