Succulent Speedy Creek Zin: 2018 Meadowcroft Speedy Creek Zinfandel Knights Valley Sonoma

It’s always enjoyable when we get to offer a wine from one of our favorite under-the-radar wineries. We’ve told you about Sonoma’s Meadowcroft before and how their sustainable wines resonate with our customers. The winery is truly one of Sonoma’s hidden treasures. Heralded by Bonfort's Wine & Spirits Journal as a top 100 Winery in 2019, this family-owned estate continues its stride toward one of the world's best.

Today we’re offering the 2018 Meadowcroft Speedy Creek Zinfandel Knights Valley Sonoma, crafted by Tom Meadowcroft—whose 35 years of experience in viticulture and winemaking makes him an expert in what makes a vineyard great. He enjoys discovering farmers with small vineyards throughout California that are producing amazing grapes and interesting varieties. He’s quick to identify these little-known gems and produce extraordinary small-production wines.

Speedy Creek is a special vineyard that is nestled between the mountains above the Knights Valley. This region is a paradise known for producing outstanding Zins. In the early 1990s, the owners of Speedy Creek Vineyard planted Robert Mondavi’s favorite Zinfandel clones for one of Mandavi’s labels. Mondavi knew Speedy Creek—which gets its name from the sound of the water that flows through the property—had the right terroir for excellent Zin then, and Tom Meadowcroft recognizes it now.

Along with his winemaker Petar Kirilov, who after growing up in a winemaking family in Bulgaria, moved to the United States to continue pursuing his passion for wine, Meadowcroft creates a succulent Zinfandel from these storied grapes grown in Sonoma’s great 2018 vintage. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate blessed this year with a 95-point review. And Wine Spectator says that it was a "nearly ideal growing season, with generally rich and structured wines that are also consumer-friendly."

The wine is 100% Zinfandel with candied blueberries, nutmeg, and shortbread on the nose. On the palate, it is ripe blackberry forward with mint, fennel, dried cherry, and a bit of black pepper follows. It’s fantastic paired with bold-flavored dishes like Korean short ribs, brisket, or grilled vegetables.

We have the Lowest Price Anywhereon this stunning Zinfandel. It’s over 37% and under $28, making it a steal for a wine of this quality.
